Statement of Practice
I use the subconscious mind to create spontaneous expressive bodily gestures to manifest the artwork that comes directly from the inner source. It is about the process of creating artwork, the relationship between me and the artwork, the process of receiving an outcome.
I am in a trance-like state accessing my inner energy expressing my spirit, portraying rhythm and feeling. I use altered states of consciousness to portray true feeling and emotion through self-reflection. The whole process of creation for me relies on the intuitive impulse I get during the moment. I then react to my media and surface solely on the feeling beforehand.
My inspiration for my practice is drawn from automatism, mind, body and spirit, Shamanism and African Masks. I look at new ways in which to combine my expressive practice with my conceptual practice. This allows me to express work of a deeper concept and meaning through my interests in philosophy. It challenges the way I think and the way I perceive the world around and in me. The absent mind and distracted state holds a unique awareness of creation.
